Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing treats acne scarring, sun damage, uneven texture and fine lines by stimulating your skin’s own collagen production. At Everything Skin in Perth we use the DEKA SmartXide Touch C60 at three treatment depths, allowing the intensity to be matched to your skin, your treatment goals and the recovery time you can accommodate.
Because the treatment depth is adjustable, fractional CO2 laser may be considered for:
Not every concern responds equally, and some are better addressed by another treatment. CO2 laser is more intensive than a peel, facial or non-ablative laser, with a real recovery period and potential risks. A consultation at our Perth clinic is required to assess suitability.
Your treatment setting is selected at consultation based on your skin type, medical history, concerns and available recovery time. Individual results and recovery periods vary.
Recovery is the question we are asked most often, and the honest answer is that it depends on the depth treated. As a general guide, expect approximately 1 to 2 days of visible redness after CoolPeel Essential, 2 to 3 days after CoolPeel Elite, and 5 to 7 days after DOT Fractional, with residual redness that can persist for several weeks afterwards. These are typical ranges rather than guarantees.

Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is a medical skin treatment. Individual results vary based on skin type, the concern being treated, treatment depth, aftercare and lifestyle factors, and results cannot be guaranteed.
All treatments require a consultation with a qualified practitioner to determine suitability and discuss potential risks, side effects and expected outcomes.

The DEKA SmartXide Touch C60 is a fractional CO2 laser platform operating at 10,600 nanometres.
What matters clinically is control. The platform allows treatment depth, the density of the microscopic columns and the energy delivered to each one to be set independently. That is what makes the three treatment settings possible on one device, and why the same machine can deliver a light resurfacing treatment and a deep scar revision treatment.
Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing works through a controlled injury. The laser delivers energy in a grid of microscopic columns while leaving untreated tissue between them. Those untreated areas support healing and allow fractional treatment to recover more quickly than older fully ablative resurfacing.
As the columns heal, the skin produces new collagen and elastin. Surface changes appear after the initial healing period, while collagen remodelling continues for several months.
The treatment may be considered for acne, surgical and traumatic scarring, sun damage, uneven tone and texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, mild laxity and general skin quality. Results vary, and a consultation is needed because not every concern or skin type is suited to CO2 laser.
It depends on the depth treated. Approximately 1 to 2 days of visible redness for the lighter setting, 2 to 3 days at moderate depth, and 5 to 7 days for deeper fractional resurfacing, with residual redness that can persist for several weeks afterwards. These are typical ranges rather than guarantees.

CO2 laser resurfacing is a medical procedure that removes layers of skin. Common expected effects include redness, swelling, warmth, itching, flaking and temporary sensitivity. Redness following deeper treatment can last several weeks.
Less common but significant risks include post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, bacterial, viral or fungal infection, reactivation of cold sores, scarring, prolonged redness and an incomplete response.
CO2 laser is generally not appropriate where there is active infection, an acne breakout or inflammation in the treatment area, recent isotretinoin use, a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, pregnancy or breastfeeding, certain autoimmune or connective tissue conditions, recent sun exposure or a tan, or where the recovery period cannot realistically be accommodated. This list is not exhaustive. Suitability is assessed individually at consultation.
Recovery, aftercare and the signs that warrant contacting the clinic are covered in more detail in CO2 laser recovery and downtime.
Deeper skin tones can have a materially higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after CO2 laser treatment. There is also a risk of hypopigmentation, which can be permanent.
Skin type, recent sun exposure, medical history and the concern being treated must be assessed before any recommendation is made. A darker skin tone does not lead to the same treatment plan for every person, and in some cases a different treatment may be more appropriate. Your practitioner will discuss the risks, available settings and alternatives during consultation.
There is no fixed treatment number. The recommendation depends on the concern, its depth, your skin type, the treatment setting and how your skin responds. Some people may be advised to have one deeper treatment followed by review, while lighter treatments or established scarring may require a different plan.
Changes in surface texture and clarity may become noticeable after initial healing. Collagen remodelling is gradual, so further changes can develop over the following two to six months. Outcomes and longevity vary, and are influenced by treatment depth, aftercare, sun protection, skincare and lifestyle factors.
Sensation varies with treatment depth, treatment area and individual sensitivity. The treatment can feel hot, prickly or uncomfortable, with deeper settings generally producing more sensation than lighter settings.
Your practitioner will explain the comfort measures used by the clinic and what you are likely to feel before treatment. Tenderness, warmth and sensitivity are common during the early healing period.
